A pregnant mother was killed and her baby left in critical condition after a crash in Oklahoma City last week.
According to police, the woman was in a vehicle driving westbound on I-40 when the improperly secured hood of the vehicle popped up. The driver was unable to see the road and hit a semi-truck also driving westbound. After the collision, the car struck the median and stopped in the left-hand lane.
Ashlyn Byers, 20, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and pronounced dead.
Byers was about six months pregnant at the time of the accident but the baby was successfully delivered after she was pronounced dead, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The newborn girl is now in critical condition and suffering multiple seizures every day, News on 9 reported.
The newborn’s grandmother, Tonia Marie, has set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the baby, who has been named Sally Rose. As of March 23, the campaign has already raised more than $13,000 for funeral and medical expenses.
