According to police, the woman who was struck in a traffic accident in Edmond last week has died.
The accident happened around 9pm near Bryant and 2nd. Lisa Stallings, 46, was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the road.
Stallings was listed in critical condition after the accident but died as a result of her injuries.
Police say Stallings was wearing dark clothing and attempting to cross on the street, not the crosswalk, News 9 reported. This likely contributed to the accident. The driver remained on the scene and waited for police.
Pedestrian accidents are a major problem in Oklahoma and often lead to fatalities. Oklahoma City has one of the country’s highest rates of pedestrian accidents, ranking second among large cities in fatal pedestrian-vehicle accidents after Detroit. Every year, more than 200 pedestrians are injured in traffic accidents. One-third of fatal pedestrian accidents occur between 8pm and midnight and over two-thirds occur at non-intersections, both of which were factors in this accident.
