34-year-old Jared Trotter arrested for killing a 9-year-old boy in a boating accident

A man from Oklahoma was charged killing a 9-year-old boy while operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol.

Police say 34-year-old Jared Trotter was riding his boat on Okmulgee Lake when his boat rammed into the side of a smaller boat. Police are unsure of all of the details of the accident and are conducting a full investigation. Police believe that Trotter was under the influence of alcohol and this led to the crash. Authorities also say Trotter was driving his boat at high rates of speed when he crashed.

The boat was carrying a 9-year-old boy and an older boy whose age was not released. When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, the 9-year-old boy was pronounced dead. Medical personnel did not say whether the boy drowned or died due to other injuries. Police say another person fled the scene before they arrived and are hoping local residents can help identify him. The older boy who was injured was airlifted to a medical center in critical condition where he is being treated.

The investigation by Okmulgee Police is still pending as there are still many unanswered questions. Since the older boy hasn’t been identified, police do not know if one was an adult or they were both minors. Authorities are hoping the parents come forward so these children can be properly identified. If you have any information, call the Okmulgee Police Department at 918-756-3511.

We offer our condolences to the families of these young boys, we are praying for them as they deal with their tremendous loss.
