Recent Accident News in Oklahoma: Changes to a Dangerous Highway

By Gibbs, Kelly (2018, March 12th). Retrieved March 14, 2018

This just in: Minco, Oklahoma residents have recently demanded changes to a dangerous highway after an accident that took a life. These residents are speaking about Highway 81, which is known for its accidents in Oklahoma due to the many 18-wheelers coming through and too much congestion taking over the roads that were once free of all these dangers. Just last week, a woman lost her life on the highway for that reason. Many people say that it’s too dangerous to pull out, and there’s nowhere that you can go without the risk of an accident.

In fact, others have started to call the highway a “Death Trap.” This dangerous highway is home to the traffic of everyday Oklahoma life and many residents say that changes must occur to save lives. Not only did a fatality just occur there, but a school bus was also rear-ended in the center of town, following an intersection accident all in the same week. There is a problem with low visibility and the speed changes very quickly from 35-65 within minutes. Many citizens are requesting that there are speed zone studies done in the area to figure out what the next steps are and to turn this dangerous highway into one that is less dangerous for all citizens.

Injured in an Accident on a Dangerous Highway?

Believe it or not, if you have been injured on a certain stretch of highway, you could bring a claim for dangerous highway design. This is especially true in cases where you have been injured in an accident on the same stretch of highway where many others have been injured or lost their lives. Hazardous highways cause the deaths of many every year across the U.S. because some highways just have inherent dangers due to inadequate warning signs, lack of guardrails, poor visibility, potholes, objects on the road, and more.

However, you have to remember that if you bring one of these claims, you usually have a shorter statute of limitations on your case and must be able to name the entity responsible for the design of the highway, which could be brought in a government-related claim.
