In its settlement with EcoDiesel owners and lessees, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) promised to deliver a recall – known as the Approved Emissions Modification or AEM – intended to ensure 2014 to 2016 EcoDiesels complied with emissions standards without changing any of the vehicles’ performance, safety, or driving characteristics.
Unfortunately, that is not the case. FCA dealerships are overwhelmed with EcoDiesel drivers complaining of a lag in throttle response, acceleration, horsepower, and torque. Following claims of emissions fraud made by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and an investigation by the Department of Justice, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) – the parent company of Jeep® and Ram® – agreed to pay more than $800 million to settle claims that its 2014 to 2016 EcoDiesel Ram trucks and Grand Cherokee SUVs cheated emissions tests.
Under the terms of the settlement, FCA agreed to:
Update the Emissions Control Software (known as the Approved Emissions Modification Recall, or AEM)
Provide an extended warranty on the vehicles
Pay owners and lessees between $990 and $3,075
