Captain Jonathan Bash of the Brooken Fire Department died from a crash with semi-truck in Haskell County

Haskell County mourns the loss of a firefighter after a collision that took place on U.S. Highway 9.

Authorities say Brooken Fire Captain Jonathan Bash was involved in a crash between his vehicle and an 18-wheeler. According to a report, Captain Bash was driving along Highway 9 when a semi-truck pulled in front of him. The semi was at a rock quarry just before he pulled into traffic and police believe this may have impaired his vision. Police also say the driver of the semi-truck merged into traffic going significantly slower than other cars.

Because the truck was moving so slow when he abruptly pulled in front of Captain Bash, he had little time to maneuver. Due to this, his vehicle slammed into the back of the 18-wheeler, fatally wounding him. Authorities did not release many other details to preserve the families privacy in this tough time. We know investigators will be testing the condition of the semi-truck driver for signs of drugs and alcohol.

We offer our condolences to the family of Captain Jonathan Bash and the Brooken Fire Department as they deal with this tragic loss.
