Emergency responders discovered the man was dead at the scene of the accident. Delays on the I-35 lasted for hours until officials cleared the lanes. Investigators are still working to figure out why the accident occurred.
Pedestrian Accidents in Oklahoma
The number one cause of pedestrian accidents is negligent driving, which consists of speeding, driving under the influence, falling asleep at the wheel, texting, and eating. Anything that drivers allow to distract them from the road is considered negligent behavior. Most drivers unintentionally commit negligent acts because they believe they can multi-task. Unfortunately, that is not always the case, as it wasn’t for this accident. It only takes a few seconds of distracted driving to hit or run over a pedestrian.
Pedestrians are highly susceptible to receiving injuries in a pedestrian accident because they don’t walk around wearing bodily protection. The most common injuries that pedestrians suffer include brain damage, spinal cord injury, internal injury, head injury, neck injury, and broken bones. These injuries could negatively affect an individual’s body for the rest of their life. Other injuries can be fatal, which, unfortunately, was the case for the man in this accident. Once investigators determine the cause of the accident, the man’s family members can pursue a wrongful death lawsuit with the help of an attorney.
