On Friday, we first reported on a fatal crash occurring on the Creek Turnpike in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. At the time, few details were known about the accident. Now, more information is coming to light as troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol conclude their investigation into the accident.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:45 pm on the Turnpike, near Aspen Street. That’s when troopers say a truck came around a curve. The driver failed to negotiate the curve properly and struck a barricade in the median of the roadway. The impact cause the truck to overturn onto its side, pinning the driver inside the truck for nearly two and a half hours until he could be freed by troopers. The driver is 49 year old Michael D. Benninghoven of Tulsa. Benninghoven passed away at the scene of the crash.
Our thoughts are with the victim and his family in this tragic fatal crash. Truck drivers have a dangerous job. They are responsible for the safety of themselves and all other vehicles on the road. Given the catastrophic consequences of a collision involving a large transfer truck, the stakes are high every time a truck driver gets into his vehicle to make a delivery. Unfortunately, this accident is a sad reminder that truck drivers literally put their lives on the line every day just to do their job.
