An Oklahoma City woman is lucky to be alive after being struck by a man driving under the influence. Oklahoma City police officers arrived on scene of an accident shortly before midnight Sunday. Upon arrival, officers found a female pinned underneath an SUV. After further investigation, authorities learned that the female ran out of gas and was attempting to push her vehicle out of the roadway. While she was pushing the vehicle, a truck passed by and struck the SUV, trapping the woman underneath. Firefighters were able to remove the woman from underneath her vehicle. Miraculously she walked away from the accident with only minor injuries.
Police identified the pickup driver as 36 year old Arturo Saveedra. According to police, Saveedra was very belligerent on scene. He reportedly told officers that he did not care about the person he hit and only asked about the condition of his truck. Officers arrested Saveedera on charges of DUI, driving without a license and failure to devote full-time and attention.
Driving Under the Influence
This story highlights the dangers of drinking and driving. Arturo Saveedra’s actions show little regard for the value of life. Certainly, had he not been drinking, the likelihood of this crash occurring would decrease greatly. While the female in this case is very fortunate to escape with only minor injuries, victims sustain serious injuries in Oklahoma impaired driving accidents on a daily basis. Law enforcement takes these matters seriously. However, they cannot always ensure that every impaired driver is off the road at any given time. In this case, Arturo Saveedra will have to answer to the criminal justice system for his actions.
