Oklahoma City, OK (December 4, 2018) On the morning of December 4th, a deadly pedestrian accident took place on Interstate 44 near Lincoln Boulevard. Officials reported that a 38-year-old man named Curt Thomas walked westbound in the left lane when a vehicle struck him. Emergency crews arrived at the scene and transported Thomas to the OU Medical Center. Unfortunately, he died in the hospital around 2:30 p.m. The police are investigating the accident and it’s unknown if the driver will face charges.
Our condolences go to Thomas’ family as we understand how difficult it is to lose a family member in a pedestrian, especially if the accident could have been prevented.
Pedestrian Accidents in Oklahoma
Unfortunately, thousands of pedestrians are killed every year in Oklahoma. On average, about 6,000 pedestrians suffer fatal injuries after being struck by vehicles. The reason pedestrians are so likely to lose their lives is because they have nothing protecting their bodies from the impact of vehicles. Their bones can easily be broken once a vehicle strikes them. They’re also prone to suffer spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, soft tissue damage, internal bleeding, and more. It’s important for the family members of the deceased victims to seek legal representation so they can receive financial reimbursement for any losses. Thomas’ family could work with an attorney to file a wrongful death lawsuit if negligence contributed to this accident.
