Payne County, Oklahoma (December 13, 2017): A fatal head-on collision early Friday morning, December 8, 2017, has left one dead and another seriously injured. According to reports, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) received a dispatch around 6:00 AM to respond to a crash on Oklahoma State Highway 33, just outside of Karsten Creek and about 8 miles west of Perkins.
The accident remains under investigation, but according to the OHP report, 56-year-old Joe Gandara, of Cushing, OK, was driving westbound on Oklahoma State Highway 33 in a 1998 Ford Mustang when his vehicle crossed the median and collided head-on with an eastbound Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by 37-year-old Jesus Gutierrez, of Edmond, OK.
Authorities confirm that both drivers were the sole occupants of the vehicles involved and both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Gandara suffered severe injuries to his head and internal organs and was pronounced dead at the scene. Gutierrez was transported to Integris Hospital of Edmond by Emergency Medical Services where he was reportedly treated for undisclosed injuries and has since been released.
