Pittsburgh County, Oklahoma (December 19, 2017): 24-year-old Sarah Young, of Terrell, Texas, was pronounced dead at McAlester Regional Health Center this weekend, after sustaining serious injuries in a motor vehicle accident on the Indian Nation Turnpike Saturday evening, December 16, 2017.
According to information provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Young had pulled her vehicle, a 2015 Ford Focus, and was parked to the side, and partially on, the outermost southbound lane of the highway, approximately seven miles west of Indianola, Oklahoma. Young was standing in front of the car when it was hit from the rear by a southbound wide-load tractor-trailer attempting to veer left to avoid contain. The collision caused the car to run Young over, causing injuries that ultimately proved fatal.
Following this initial collision, the tractor-trailer crossed the center divider, traveling across both northbound lanes before crashing into a bridge shoulder on the east side of the highway. The tractor-trailer was then struck by two other vehicles traveling in the northbound lanes, a 2007 Nissan and a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, 29-year-old Mario Taylor of Tampa, Florida, was injured in the accident and transported from the site to McAlester Regional Health Center. He has since been released. The drivers and passengers of the other vehicles reportedly suffered minor injuries but declined treatment at the scene. The total number of people involved in the crash is unclear and the crash remains under investigation by authorities.
