The OHP released a report about an auto-pedestrian crash involving a 7-year-old girl.
The report stated that the child was walking onj0 the road near Red Rock Ave. At the same time, a Nissan Altima driven by a man named Steven Filkins was driving next to her. Investigators say the child was walking on the shoulder of Hwy 59 but declined to say how the crash happened. It’s unclear if the child could be seen or if she was wearing dark clothing and was unnoticeable.
Also, the parents of the child were not with her at the time, but police didn’t mention what would happen to the girl. Her name is being held until her guardian is contacted by police. The girl was taken to OU Medical center with severe internal and external injuries. Luckily, she is expected to survive. Police allowed Filkins to leave the scene because the investigation is still underway. It may take some time before the OHP is able to determine who was at fault. We will keep you updated as evidence is processed and released.
We send our condolences to the seven-year-old girl and hope she is able to recover quickly and enjoy the rest of her life.
